I just got this from: http://php.net/preg_match

if(eregi ("^[[:alnum:]][a-z0-9_.-]*@[a-z0-9.-]+\.[a-z]{2,6}$", stripslashes(trim($someVar))))
{
  echo "good";
}
else
{
  echo "bad";
}
?>
