Be sure to read the User Contributed notes. The basic premise of "safe mode" is that your PHP script should only open up files that are owned by the same OS UserID as the owner of the script. EG: ls -als ... kioto my_script.php ... kioto my_data.txt ... root secret_data.txt Your script can open up my_data.txt, because you own both files.
