I'm not sure how to debug this further ... on the 27th, I upgraded our server(s) to 4.3.9, and since then, the sites just aren't performing very well ... I've tried adding mmcache, and it makes no improvement ... I've tried halving the # of processes running on the server, no improvement ... the only thing I haven't tried yet is downgrading back to 4.3.8, which I'm going to try next ...

But, if anyone has any ideas ... ? Something that I can look at, or use
to debug?

How about going back to 4.3.8 and seeing if that truly makes a difference.

After alot of frustrating debugging, we finally tried removin the --enable-versioning from the FreeBSD port makefile ... that make a *massive* difference in start times, and return of php pages ... :(
