A work around I've used in the past has been to use a keyed array such as:

$MyEnums = array(
	"is" => "This",
	"at" => "That",
	"er" => "Other"
);

Then you can refer to them like:

echo($MyEnums["is"]);	// Prints "This"

Just an idea.
