RE: Requesting assistance with installing mysql support in PHP5.

I have looked over the page you sent.  I looked it over before I sent my first email.  It hasn't helped any.  In order to make use of the information on that page, I would already have to know the path to MySQL on the system I am working on, and I do not know it.  The database was set up by my predecessor, not me.  I don't know where he installed it.

 

I've tried searching on the system for files or directories by the name of 'mysql', and received twenty-one results.  I tried running ./configure with each of these results individually, and with the path minus the '/mysql' string, again individually.  Each time I received the same error message - "configure: error: Cannot find MySQL header files under ***.
Note that the MySQL client library is not bundled anymore!"  where *** is the path I was compiling on.

I have also tried this with the three copies of mysql.so that the Linux find function turned up, again both with full path and path less target string.  In those six cases, I ended up with the same error message.  And lastly, I tried it on the eight files that Linux turned up on a search for libmysqlclient* (a search without the * at the end revealed nothing).  Here I tried only the file, as all instances were in directories ending in /mysql, which I had already attempted to configure with.  Again, the results were the same error.

 

I do not know how to find the directory or file I need to seek out for this process.  Would someone please be gracious enough to tell me the name of some specific file which lies in the directory I need to look for, so that I can attempt to search for it?

I attempted to upgrade a server (SuSE 9.3 OS) running apache2 and php 4.3.10 to php 5.2.0 a while back.  At the time, I did not know that php5 no longer included the mysql libraries by default.  A few days ago, I was told that one of the users on the server in question could no longer access their mysql information via the php programs they had been using.

 

The system originally had php4 installed on it, with the default library files.  I would like to continue using php5 on the system, but the ability to use mysql is quite important to us and I am currently lacking a few pieces of information I believe I will need to correctly configure and build the php5 installation with mysql support.

 

1. What is(are) the name(s) of the library files I will need to direct the php5 configuration to look for?

2. What is the probable path for them to have been installed in on the php4 installation?

3. Once I find these files, how do I tell the configuration to specifically use them?

 

Any advice anyone can give me regarding these issues, or suggestions for alternate solutions, will be greatly appreciated.
