Dear Guy and PF list members, Hard to believe PF has been around for so many years. Y'know ... it started as a conversation while returning from lunch and strolling on a school sidewalk. on a sidewalk ... partially as a result of trying to come up with ways to promote the school worked at (and where the server is located) and partly as a service to photographers and students and others. It was originally planned to be called PhotoNet but I was dissuaded by a colleague because the name was being bandied about by a friend of his in the UK. Oh, well. PhotoNet eventually grew and expanded and am not sure it is at all connected with the UK instructors. Anyway, we had our ups and downs ... it has at times been challenging to keep the peace. Believe it or not in the early years the discussion volume caused members to leave. Something like 100 to 200 posts a day!! These days I appreciate all those of you who have "stuck it out" and am glad to be of "service". I must confess that at least the gallery gives me something positive to do every weekend - thank you. I hope you all are well and have no major health problems. Of course a few laughs help as well. Be well, Andy ________________________________________ From: PhotoForum <photoforum-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> on behalf of Guy Glorieux <guy.glorieux@xxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, February 20, 2023 2:15 PM To: PhotoForum educational network Subject: Re: PhotoForum list and gallery situation Dear Andy, dear list members, First let me express my heartiest congratulations to you Andy for your dedication to the PhotoForum Gallery, week after week for such a long period. My count is that you have acted on1,350 +/- galleries amounting to 13,500 +/- pictures. 🍾✴🎶 I have been active with the Gallery for more than 20 years with several periods of absence due to a variety of reasons. I always came back because I missed the value and quality of the Gallery and list contributors. It's been a source of inspiration when my mind was turning blank. I am struck that many participants have been around since the beginning but I am sorry that the weekly heated discussions have virtually disappeared. It would be a big loss if PF were to disappear. 🙁 🙁 Guy Glorieux Montréal, Canada www.guyglorieux.com<http://www.guyglorieux.com> Le dim. 19 févr. 2023, à 06 h 48, John Palcewski <palcewski@xxxxxxxxx<mailto:palcewski@xxxxxxxxx>> a écrit : Maybe it's been mentioned here before, but what we used to call "photography" no longer exists. Why? Because virtually every person in the world has a cell phone that instantly makes technically perfect images that can be stored, shared, etc., etc.,etc. With great nostalgia I look back to the old days when I had a "darkroom" and people actually paid me for what used to be called "prints," in color or black & white. I used to look at old people with considerable contempt, and now? The young folks are looking at me the same way. Oh, well. At least I still have all my teeth. Both could be discontinued unless the situation improves even a little bit. The list started in 1993 and the gallery in 1996.
