hi all! i think it is high time undertaking a BIG multi part photo project, coming from an idea I have been sitting on for years. And on subjects that are untouched still, so do not spread the world around, will you? LOLOL The theme will be a series of photoshoots (documentation) of earth/land produces that Greece is well known of (some are considered among the best in the world). Peaches, Crocus, porcelain ore, Karystos' sharpening stone, Bauxite, etc. So documenting the process of, and the people involved in it, will bring me in a variety of location too. From the open fields to quarries and mines. There are two things that trouble me. 1. Organizing the whole thing. That I think i can handle, especially if i make a dry run on the local produce of peaches. BTW, i plan on no more than two themes per year. In regard to contacting the people involved I find it easy. i.e Crocus is harvested by the local co-op, porcelain ore by a well established firm that makes the end product, etc. 2. Finding the best photographic approach to each subject. i.e. the crocus flowers are cut by hand on the field by the farmers, and then the stems are removed by female hands, one by one. That calls for an intimate, even naturalistic approach to the subject. But what about the technical part of it? Low camera field shots at dusk, same level shots at the lady workers, that kind of details. Or how to light up the area that the worker will be breaking off stone in the mine.... And then, these projects, to justify themselves, need a photobook for each and a series of lectures/presentations around the country. While the former is a bit expensive, the latter is easier to do, as photo clubs over here are eager to host and sometimes to hostel at no expense. And while I do not count on it, subsidizing the cost of book printing by the firms that are involved in these produces is possible. Σo what to you think of the basic idea? What advice can you offer regarding setting up and photographing these subject matters? Thank you...
