I lied - IMG_4322 is an empty file.

Looking at IMG_4321 now

There is no data or header to recover.

Looks like the backup had "saved space for the  file in the FAT but not copied / preserved the data inside.

I'd try Irfanview. which unlike many seems to open files others won't handle.
If I had a link to one of the files, I'd try it.

As you think it's a jpeg, next is a hex editor to see if the header is intact.
