OK over my head. I even tried to take a picture of the file with my Wisner 8x10. Nope.

I'd try Irfanview. which unlike many seems to open files others won't handle.
If I had a link to one of the files, I'd try it.

As you think it's a jpeg, next is a hex editor to see if the header is intact.
