No it not too late for Jan-Jan justs get bigger
hard drive to transfer stuff to.. 8T HHD for Jan or better yet 1T SSD
which are "suppose" to last forever. In your case it is too late. ( I wonder if
Jan could get insurance on his pictures so if they disappeared he woould get
cash for them)
The quality of a 4x5" can never be achieved
with a 35mm except in rare cases. I have some cute B&W shot on 2.25" film
that just has better tonality than if I had shot them on a 35mm. I wish I had
not gone to 35mm for it better convenience.
