Jan’s answer is below:

Hi Julie -

I was hoping for a bit more than a snappy answer sending me to a website. The PF list is supposed to be for education and to do that, the members have to go beyond the pat answer. Photography is an incredibly complex and difficult profession even if one is working in a lab like yours rather than bouncing around the world from one assignment to another.

The digital camera has not made photography easier and really has added exponentially to the number of self-serving idiots in the field. I don’t think you’re one, nor do I see Andrew Sharpe as one either. People confuse the object of taking pictures (to document, interpret, and make a different product than what is seen by the photographer) with what the digital box can do. As ornery as Andrew Sharpe can be, he does take some amazing pictures of plant life and leaves.

I have a friend who says Google has made us all so smart that we’ve become smartasses. I believe smartass answers are everywhere, even on the PF list. Learning how to do more than push a button on a 5Ds, any film camera, or the specialized tools available to labs, is a long and intense project. Anybody applying for that job at your place will have to be aware of that.

best,

Jan

The posting says its for institutional and private clients in the first Paragraph.  They are conservation center that probably, I would guess, conserve and possible restore works.

I think it would be nice for Julie to possible post articles on conversation of Photographic mediums when she comes across them.

I love how Andrew think Jans email is noise so he adds even more noise. Pot meet kettle?   I was hopeing Jans reply would invoke Julie to tell us more about the work they do on Photographic mediums.

Yeah Andrew, I’ve noticed that about you. Photographers are a profession seem to be endlessly curious, but not you. Is that because you think of yourself as so fecking smart you don’t need to use curiosity anymore?

In all honesty, if I were about 40 years younger, I’d take a stab at the gig.

Jan,

This would have been much more effective if you had simply responded to
Julie Martin <jmartin@xxxxxxxxx>. We do not really care about your
curiousity.

Out of curiosity, who owns the materials you work with? Are they from
public or private collections, or both?
