I'm trying to calculate how big a generator I need to do some location work.   I need to power 4x2400 w/s packs and a 2000 w/s pack with over head to charge 2 ranger batteries at a time and 2 Leaf batter packs at a time. that later items are only 3v.    So I can just rent huge but Im trying to rent as physically small and quite as possible.

Quiet might be an issue, but I would not rent. If you are ever going to need a generator again, just buy one. NOw that Y2K is over, they have become much cheaper.

The two issues are noise and the size of the gas tank. Most portable-ish wheeled generators only have a one gallon or so gas tank good for and hour or two. As for quiet, there is no such thing as most generators run almost straight pipes. The sound can be directed however, and exhausts can be pointed away from your set.

I put a 4” thick styrofoam 3-sided box around mine and run longer extension cords for quiet. I don’t think your  generator needs to be much more than a 2kW generator.
