You know I actually run into that in real life all the time.   People ask for something to be removed from a shot for what ever reason and really thing it will just reveal what was behind it.

Some years after WW2 a lady took a black and white photo of her grandfather, in his army uniform, to a photo colourist and asked for a copy to be prepared but tinted in the correct colours.
 
As an afterthought she asked if the photographer could remove her grandfather's military headgear. The photographer said that it would be possible but asked 'what colour was his hair?'
 
'I don't remember was the response' but she went on 'You'll see it when you take his hat off!'
