So I sent a message to Silverfast about the problem with their
software and this morning they responded - speedy.
It took us about 2.5 hours to determine that the application cannot
find a driver for the scanner, and along the way we learned that the
installation process disconnects the computer from the internet - not
a good thing from my point of view. Installation from downloaded
installer should either come fully equipped to install, or be needed
to page the provider for additional files.
I asked them for a link to the driver and they sent me to Nikon's
get-everything-here page, which of course was not specific enough for
me to find just a driver for the specific scanner. A search of
Nikon's site revealed that if such a driver exists for the Mac using
Snow Leopard, Nikon isn't in any hurry to make it easily accessible.
So I told Silverfast that and haven't heard from them for a couple hours now.
We'll see whether I've opened a can of worms for them with this. The
business about installation from the downloaded installer blocking
internet access does not seem good at all to me.
