Re: Stuck filter

My 70 to 300mm Canon lens fell off a small table (about 16 in high.)  The filter shattered and the filter rim was slightly bent.  Nothing I tried including a pair of pliers worked.  My son put on a pair of heavy leather work gloves and twisted it off.  A new filter attached perfectly.  I don't think a plastic filter wrench would have worked, but I didn't have one anyway.

Filter wrenches would definitely be the best.  I have thought off an on over the years I might pick up a set, but it so seldom that one actually gets stuck that I just never bothered.  More often than not, I am having one fall off rather than can't get it off.  Just didn't figure it would be worth the investment, but I didn't know then a set of filter wrenches is a $5 item.  That makes far more sense.
