I can't remember who said it but it was one of the great directors.... He said something like "I don't get standard lighting or three-point lighting or short or broad lighting... I use "Dangerous" lighting or "Romantic" lighting or dark, somber lighting...

The fundamental lighting for video is good ol' 3-point lighting
Key light, fill light and hair light.
Keep lighting out of shot is also a good rule.
