thanks for the review John...some thoughts on the overexposure issue...I normally shoot wildlife, especially birds, in shutter priority...I also keep my Nikon D300 set on Auto ISO, a function which permits me to get shots that otherwise just wouldn't happen...this was a really gloomy day, it was late in the afternoon and the rain was about to begin...I had the shutter speed set at 1/500 and reviewing the EXIF data for this shot shows an aperture of f5.6 and an ISO of 1600 at an equivalent focal length of 600mm...I was pretty happy with the result...
