the francification of English that took place in
England (and the Americans avoided) really demanded the h be silent.. it
was more sophistimicated ;)
this and such words as 'programme' took over the
original English spelling - and it's kinda funny really that so many words
viewed as being 'American spelling' are actually the pre-fracified, original
English
