I have done exactly that for several mailing including one mailing where people on a photoforum list sent each other postcards!.

It worse than that. Printing on the back of gloss  RC paper can't be done with dye or pigment inkjets. You also can't print with dye or pigment on the back of commercial (scenic)postcards
