I wonder if Nikon is trying to consolidate their future lineup:

e.g.

• D5, D50, D500, D5000

currently they have a mismatch of various non-intuitive names and overlapping feature sets:

• D3x, D3, D700, D300, D90, and now D5000 (not to mention D60, D40, etc)
  

Just pondering...

I've just read the blurb from Nikon on their new D5000 SLR . What does this take over from, the D90?? But it sounds right up my street, especially with the new face detection and tilting view finder! Howard
