Without really thinking about the correct answer to your query I'd make
sure that the digicam does not have a preflash (whatever trouble that could
cause!) Somebody more "with it" will probably stumble on the solution!

I got the genius idea of using a slave strobe (Vivitar 283) with my
small P&S digicams to deal with the red-eye problem. Can't figure out
why it didn't work at all. Not on manual or auto. Of course there is no
provision for a sync cord on these little cams like on a DSLR. The
camera strobe gives the correct exposure but with the slave it
underexposes.
