Bill,
        I had some old odd filters from my father in a drawer upstairs. I found an  envelope with a 2 x 2" violet blue and  a 2 x 2" amber gelatin filter  among some old stereo stuff probably dating from the 1950's. So there is nothing new about this color scheme, just some ad execs hocking it as new.

The left lens of the viewing glasses is blue-violet and the right lens is amber. You can fake it with a piece of blue gel for the left and nothing for the right.  I recall something similar done in the 1980's.
