convert from greyscale to duotone, selecting N colors (typically Pantone spots) and for each, specifying a custom curve.
For example, if I chose black, red and yellow, I might want black to be neutral, red to dominate the midtones, and yellow to dominate the highlights.

Easy to play around with.
