Marilyn,
First, you'll have to find a way to separate the audio file from the video
on your DVD. You may not be able to get at just the audio file, and it
may turn out that the only way to separate the audio from the video is to
record the audio with some recording software (for which you may have to
search and pay probably a small fee) in REAL TIME, while playing the DVD
on your computer.
So start by determining whether there are separate audio files on the DVD.
Once you have got the audio file in digital form and on your computer, the
easiest way I can think of is to dump it into iTunes and have iTunes
convert it to an mp3 file.
Then all you need is an iPod of some type, like the Shuffle. The cheapest
one has something like a 1Gig drive and clips on your
waistband/lapel/shirt pocket and costs around $50. iTunes will allow you
to plug the little Shuffle into your computer through its dock with USB2,
and transfer the sound file into it. (They are cute as hell, lemme tell
you. They come in cute anodized colors, too, like pink and purple, at no
additional cost.)
