To all who responded, thank you.  Between your efforts and Adobe Support, I believe the problem is solved - cross my fingers - and it was a combination of things.  Upgraded everything I could, reinstalled CS3 a couple of times and, finally, used CS3 cleaner before the last reinstall to remove corrupted scripts.  So far, so good,  I reserve  the right to complain and question again if things go bad.

to add to my previous message, I do believe I had to go into my registry and remove the old one and then either run an update or reinstall CS3.  I forget.

Not a Mac users here.

But have you gotten the latest Adobe Camera Raw release for your particular version.
It sounds like maybe the raw converter is set up for PS7 and not CS PS3.

Just a guess.

Cheers,

I just recently upgraded from PS 7 to CS PS3.  Now I find that if I even get close to a Nikon D70 NEF image the program crashes.  When it goes down it also corrupts the ability to open the Merge to HDR function.  Using Mac OS 10.4.9 with enough RAM etc. to not be a problem.  Anybody else have a similar experience or suggestions?  I have restarted, reinstalled, updated graphic drivers etc.  So far Adobe support has been very slow and not too helpful.
