This reminds me of an incident that happened
to me a short time ago. I saw a Mourning Dove, which are plentiful in
this area, standing over his fallen companion. Walking over to see if the
dove lying on the sidewalk was dead or injured, the companion dove backed up a
few steps, but didn't fly away.
As soon as I left, after determining the one dove
to be dead, I walked away. The companion dove went back to the
side of his companion.
I thought it very touching and sad and I
was amazed by the loyalty of one animal to another.
