I'll try to remember to credit it to you.
I find my Nikon flashes, in particular, get *really weird* when the
power is low. Symptoms that don't really make me think "batteries". By
now I'm replacing them as part of the diagnostic procedure, so I don't
lose too much time over it.
I don't use much my Canon 580 flash.
The batteries are still strong after a long time.
Interesting when will be the day when I'll need it and it will not be
available or batteries will drain to their compartment ?
