Yes, volunteerism comes with the territory.
I've volunteered for various organizations for the past 30 years, though, and
was just beginning to think I'd like a break from it. Alas - some of us
have the curse of not knowing when to say "no."

I'll have to second AZ's suggestion. Once
you are retired and get to become really involved in the things you love to
do, you are all of a sudden working 80 hour weeks. But I don't think
retirees would have it any other way.
