Regarding dessicants, I've been using Drierite, which is calcium sulfate, not silica gel. I use it in my film vault, which is located in my humid basement, as a way to reduce fungal growth. I purchased a one pound bottle of drierite for about $15, and use about half of it at a time. I regenerate it per Drierite instructions in my oven, 425F for 1 hr.
