I think I read a note from you that stated you were out of town for a few days, so I realize you may not be able to respond to this note right away.

But - I'm curious about the PhotoHistory XIII. How many people usually attend? Are all the presenters in the upper echelon of photography and science?

Subject: PhotoHistory XIII - Call for Papers - ANNOUNCEMENT

                             PhotoHistory XIII

The 13th Triennial Symposium on the History of Photography
will take place on Friday-Sunday, October 20-22, 2006
                            Rochester, New York

Presented by The Photographic Historical Society
in cooperation with George Eastman House

Mark your calendars for the Symposium, PhotoHistory XIII, to be held October
20-22, 2006 at George Eastman House, Rochester, NY, conducted by The
Photographic Historical Society in cooperation with George Eastman House.

Since its inception in 1970, this triennial event is the world's only ongoing
PhotoHistorical symposium, recognized as the principal forum for original,
scholarly presentations on the broad history of photography. Several hundred historians, collectors and enthusiasts from around the world are expected to
gather for a weekend of lectures, exhibits and a major sale of antique
photographica. (Special interest groups often meet while at the symposium.)

The feature of PhotoHistory is its full day lecture program. More leading
authors have presented here than at any other venue. We strive for a program
offering a wide range of photo-historical topics, including the
social/commercial impact, esthetics and technology of photography and
photographers.

We are entertaining contributions for PhotoHistory XIII. If you have a
presentation you would like to have considered for the Symposium program,
please send a description (including the time required) and a one-page
abstract. We need the description and abstract no later later than December 31,
2005, to enable proper committee review and subsequent correspondence.

Electronic submission of proposals should be sent to: Prof. Andrew Davidhazy, at andpph@xxxxxxx stating clearly in the Subject line that the message is a submission of an abstract for the XIII Symposium. Communications in writing using the postal service should be sent to: Sharon Bloemendaal, 82 Quentin Rd.,
Rochester, NY 14609.

Our program features 45-50 minute presentations, but also welcomes proposals for brief resentations (e.g., 15-30 minutes). We prefer that the lectures not have been presented or published previously. We waive registration, hotel and
meal fees for speakers.

We anticipate another successful and stimulating PhotoHistory Symposium, and
hope you will participate. Please pass the word to colleagues who share an
interest in the history of photography. Write or call (585) 288-6359, if
additional information is needed, or if you wish to suggest others whom we can
contact as possible speakers.

Thanks for passing this along to your organization's officers and anyone else
who may have an interest in this Symposium.
