That is correct but I would not recommend under exposing any digital photo by a full stop, you would be far better off to do as perfect of an exposure as possible then work on it in say PS or some other photo editing program

If I set my digital camera to f/8 and meter the light and the meter gived me a shutter of 1/250-------by increasing the shutter to 1/500 less light will be recorded and the image will be darker?
Is this correct and is there any summary reading of exposure settings available?
