Not sure what the bottleneck is at Kodak....either the minimum-order batch of about US$5k (several industrial/aerial/academic/military clients couldn't care less), or the same problem MACO faced for some years: finding a replacement for their worn/broken 70mm cutting- machine. (for less than the (also below mentioned) near US$100k price tagged to this exotic machinery)) However, MACO just announced that they have this format going again, see next forwarded message. Not sure if they would also be willing to cut different brands of film on request, in particular doubtful for HIE/Aerographic-IR (since that conflicts with their own 840nm film), but for EIR/Aerochrome-IR there might be less hesitation. Willem (crossing his fingers that MACO will also be able to create a full HIE/920nm replacement before the Kodak analog branch deteriorates even further) Jan ------- Forwarded message follows ------- Send reply to: <MKJ@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> From: "Kevin Johnson APL Inc." <MKJ@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: "'Debbie Marchi'" <dmarchi@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Copies to: "Debra E. As a Hasselblad user myself with 4-70mm backs I wanted to make you aware of this because it is time to place a final order. Kodak will NO LONGER be producing Color Infrared 70mm film (or B&W for that matter). At this current time our friendly competitors in Ohio are considering getting a final bulk order of the 70mm Color IR film. This film will NO LONGER be cut to this size after the end of this month. As a result HAS Images in Ohio is trying to put together one last order of this film for people that utilize it. If you are interested in obtaining some of this film you will need to contact them tomorrow if at all possible and I would say Monday at the latest. The person to speak with is Debbie at 937-222-3856. After this batch is ordered then you will need to purchase 9.5" stock and find a way to cut and perforate it. Our lab is giving that consideration for the future but at this time we have not found the machinery to do so. At the moment the only perforation machine I have found is perforation type 1 and to obtain it with the modifications for perforation type 2 the cost is about $85,000.00 used. My understanding is that this is not too far off of a new cost. If you happen to stumble across a machine that is set up to create perforation type 2 for sale please notify me at MKJ@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx I know that a machine was once offered to a person for $2500.00 but they do not have the information of who had the unit. If you have any consideration to utilize this film in any fashion I would suggest trying to get in with this final order. I am working on a list of 70mm perforated films that will be available after the months end and there are only a few types and they will carry high dollar value minimum orders.
