There are times I leave my camera home to see with my eyes and heart and it's OK conclusively. I notice different things.
But then again all the next times I HAVE to capture everything that catches my eye.
Driving my car I always memorize potential frames that flip past the car window and often feel like being robbed, while I cannot stop always and take the picture.
Pressing on the knob finalizes something in my head. It's the end of seeking and perhaps the beginning of a creative process.

I am interested in knowing what purposes all of you feel photography serves, and especially interested in knowing those purposes beyond earning a living.
Another way to put my question (or this could be interpreted as another question) what is photography beyond the camera (leaving the technicalities of photographic equipment, that is)?
Another, more romantic way, to word my question would be - what place in your heart does photography fill?
