Yes, and I seen pictures of mannequins in store windows. These events in  the 
external world were still captured on film so they are still photography.  
Photography is a process of making images that exist in the real world first and 
 then manipulating them into whatever. Making the image on a computer screen 
from  a non photographic source is not photography.
I see a different definition to what Andy meant by reality, A definition of  
reality based on objects and people in the external world.
