Chamging skin tones

Can anyone help please?
A student of mine wants to change skin tones in 2 portraits, as part of a project "Thinking Out Of The Box" examining racial stereotyping.

Is there any quick and easy way of changing from european skin to black and vice versa in Photoshop 7?

All I could think of was working in 16 bit RGB or CMYK mode from a NEF file, selecting the skin and lips separately, then using curves, colour balance or selective colour balance layers to adjust the amounts of cyan magenta and yellow accordingly.

Suggestions welcomed!

Howard
