I do love Astoria!
But I'm beginning to think I should go East, instead of North on this trip.......
I think my New England sense of distance is getting in the way of my being imaginative about this trip. Just going from SF to the Grand Canyon seems like driving from Portland, ME to the Florida Keys, something I wouldn't consider doing without stopping over possible twice.
And gas is so much more expensive out there than here, too. And renting a car that gets reasonable mileage is very difficult, as well.
We shall see.
