RE: Digital cameras - again

Hi,

I don’t know much about the weight part…

Although, I myself bought a Digital this [2003] December…

And all the thought and research that I put into it suggests that Canon is a better choice in digital.

I am a Nikon fan; but, I bought the canon A70.

My options were Canon A70/Nikon Coolpix 3100.

I have not looked into Coolpix 2100 [2.0 MP] though…

But the thing is that if your friend is serious about his photos, Canon offers more Control.

Though both 3100 & A70 are in the same price band & resolution [3.2 MP], Nikon has more modes, whereas Canon offers Aperture and Shutter speed controls along with the modes.

The picture quality is good to… [if you want, I can send you a few sample pictures]

Only thing I have heard is that Nikon’s macro is a tad bit better.

Also, canon piece is rugged and fits the hand [Nikon is too small… depends whether you like to have a grip to your cam :)]

So, if your friend is a “snapper”, 3100 suits him better [for it has only programmed modes and is handy in size]; otherwise, I shall recommend A70.

Anyway, you better not buy a 2.0 MP now, markets are moving-on and 2.0MP is almost out…

Also, a higher resolution wouldn’t hurt… if nothing, it will help you to crop your images… [you cant blow-up negs here – digital :)]

What else, that’s as much as I know & my personal opinion.

Hope this is helpful :)

Keep In Touch.

P.S.: If your budget allows, consider Canon Powershot A80 too… cooler not only in terms of resolution [4.0 MP], but also other aspects such as design and ‘control’… :)

Subject: Digital cameras - again

You would think that by now, people who know me would  know I'm a poor candidate for information on digital cameras, but I keep getting asked questions about them.   I assure those who ask the questions that I have contacts in high places (the PhotoForum List) who know all {:->

The person asking is interested in a digital camera, 2 mega pixels is all he thinks he needs - his photographs are rarely over 4 X 6 inches.

He has narrowed his choices to the Canon A60, Canon A70 or the Nikon Cool Pix 2100, 2 (3?) mega pixels with macro capabilities.

He is concerned about the lens quality of the Nikon, is wondering which is the more rugged camera and if the Canon compares in weight to the Nikon (which is lighter?).

He's also wondering if he may have missed a super low to medium end camera that may be as good or better as the three he is considering.

Have any of you experience or opinions on the above mentioned cameras?   Any input would be much appreciated.   Thank you.

Marilyn
