Hi All, I think I'd go with "asleep". I don't recall the details, but didn't NG go through a painful and public "mea culpa" over digital manipulation and a promise to everafter zealously protect the integrity of their documentary images? They surely have easier access to a larger pool of experts than does the The Hungarian Nature Photographers Society. With a photo that does look, even to a untrained eye, almost to good to be true, surely the commitment to transgress no more would require running such photos past appropriate experts. This is even more so if that society's claim about past disqualification is true. (And that is the sort of thing that NG ought to know about their contributors. Particularly the Hungarian version awarding the cover shot to a Hungarian photog.) Simply put, given the history and institutional role of NG, "We were fooled" pretty much equals "We were asleep".
