Just came back to tell you: I managed to print in "real" BW - I just told the printer that I was using one of the fine papers Epson sells! However, the software detected that I kept running out of light magenta, so it seems that the printer still spends color inks when printing BW (which I suppose is to balance the tone of a particular paper).
