Colette pointed out that not all nudes are photographed opposite-gender photographers, and gave Ruth Bernhardt as an example.

 Many others come to mind....

Muybridge photographed many male nudes in his motion studies (1880's).
Bruce Weber did innumerable, strong figure studies of men (and women) during his career, both commercial and personal. Baron Wilhelm von Gloeden made exceptionally intense nudes of young greek boys.. Anne Brigman, who was the subject of much good-natured chiding by A. Adams, did many fine, lyrical, Pictorial nudes of women in natural settings. Elias Goldensky did sculpturally lit male nudes in his studio (1910s). Edward Weston did at least one unusually strong nude of his son Neil (1920s). Imogen Cunningham did many notable female and some male nudes. Robert Mapplethorpe did penetrating (oops, pardon the pun) nudes of both sexes. Deborah Turbeville has done dreamy, psychologically charged, female nudes. Sheilah Metzner, using the Fresson process, has a unique look to hers, dripping with atmosphere, longing and a feminine aura of eroticism. Judy Dater, many daring ones of both sexes. Barbara Morgan, classic female nudes(40s). Wolfgang Tillman has powerhouse
contemporary, POstmodern nudes of both sexes in his work.....I think Jeff Wall does, too....and many, many others that I can't recall at the moment.
Photographers making pictures of same-sex nudes is nothing new or radical. Gregory Stempel's point is backed up by the history of the medium.
