I have heard this "Java is not open source" over and over again.
What's the issue with wanting the language to be open source? Where is the problem with using Java from a license perspective? You are (and always have been) free to bundle the JRE with your app. And besides: Java just went OpenSource with (AFAIK) very liberal license.

And who cares if my bytecode knows something about Generics as long as the application runs at a good speed?
