guess that the issue is related to semaphore overhead or something like
that.

certainly, ti would be good to benchmark both OS's on the same version
of postgres, comparing 9.1 to 9.5 isn't fair.

Something else that just dawned on me, the databases are not the same version, is the data being queried the same in content and size?
