Why localhost is not an alias for 127.0.0.1 ?

grep localhost /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1       localhost
127.0.1.1       host.host     host

# The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
::1     localhost ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allrouters

I've seen some weird stuff on some systems.

127.0.1.1 sounds a little bit strange form me but the file seems ok.

and

$ host localhost
localhost has address 127.0.0.1
localhost has IPv6 address ::1
