Your subquery can also be explicitly casted to make it work. Note the "::TEXT[]"
SELECT 'found' WHERE 'test' = ANY( (SELECT ARRAY['test','pass','fail'])::TEXT[] );
SELECT 'found' WHERE 'test' = ANY( (SELECT ARRAY['test','pass','fail'])::TEXT[] );
