Finally, I change the logging in account to Local System account as suggested in your URL. And then change it back to .\postgres
This magically worked for me.
I think ctrl+alt+del was a compulsory part of XP trouble shootings :)

you need everything in the $PGDATA directory. On my system here, itsD:\Postgres\8.4\data but of course, your mileage may vary.
