Hello All, After starting the postmaster, I just entered in database like: $ psql test Welcome to psql 7.4.2, the PostgreSQL interactive terminal. Type: \copyright for distribution terms \h for help with SQL commands \? for help on internal slash commands \g or terminate with semicolon to execute query \q to quit test=# LOG: received smart shutdown request test=# When I stop the postmaster in another session or in terminal, I got the following error: $ pg_ctl -D /var/opt/iexpress/postgresql stop waiting for postmaster to shut down................................................................ failed pg_ctl: postmaster does not shut down $ Is there any other way to shutdown in this situation? (Or) How to know whether database is accessed or not? (Or) How to shutdown the postmaster safely from the above situation? Regs, Durai. ____________________________________________________________ Yahoo! Messenger - Communicate instantly..."Ping" your friends today!
