I find
BEGIN;
CREATE TEMP TABLE remnant AS
SELECT * FROM bigtable WHERE (very_restrictive_condition);
TRUNCATE TABLE bigtable;
INSERT INTO bigtable SELECT * FROM remnant;
COMMIT;
ANALYSE bigtable;
works well because there is no possibility of my forgetting FKs.
