We are looking for an experienced DBA that is interested working in a
cloud-native PostgreSQL environment as part of a small but growing
remote team. In addition to the usual operational DBA duties, you will
be fully engaged with the development team through all phases of the SDLC.
Your duties will include but are not limited to:
- planning, deployment, and maintenance of relational DB operational
concerns, with a focus on automation
- working closely with the data architect and senior developers on
model changes and optimizations
- proactively identifying performance bottlenecks
- develop strategies, procedures, and mechanisms regarding the management
of non-relational data, including cloud-based object storage
- assist in planning and implementation of data strategies for
integration test frameworks
As we expect you to automate the routine part of your tasks (leaving
your attention free to handle the new or unusual), we are interested
in someone who is also amenable to expanding their experience beyond
core DBA duties as time permits. Depending on your interests and
aptitudes, this may include any of the following: Development,
data analysis, release processes, operational monitoring and prediction
mechanisms, automated QA processes, or other related activities
supporting the core product.
You must be self-motivated and have strong written and oral
communication skills. The operating language is English.
This is a remote full-time permanent position (currently Canadian
residents only).

Mandatory:
- a degree (minimum BSc) in computer science, computer engineering, or
a related discipline
- experience in:
+ deploying and maintaining enterprise-grade relational databases,
preferably PostgresSQL (min 10 years)
+ DB performance analysis (min 10 years)
+ schema design and/or analysis (min 2 years)
+ clustered and HA DB configurations (min 5 years)
+ UNIX/Linux administration (min 5 years)
+ capacity planning (min 5 years)
+ DR planning (min 5 years)
- able to pass an RCMP Criminal Records Check
Preferable:
- experience with any of the following:
+ experience with any of Oracle, DB2, or MySQL
+ alternate data storage mechanisms, including object stores
+ data modelling
+ data versioning approaches
+ Kubernetes
+ GKE
+ AWS
+ RabbitMQ
+ CI/CD systems
+ software development (any language, but preferably Java or Python)
+ scripting (any of Bourne, Perl, Python)
+ automated test systems
- experience in or an aptitude for software release workflows
- experience in or an aptitude for QA workflows, specifically
automated workflows
- ability to write and speak French or Spanish
