At AWeber, we're looking for a Senior Application DBA. Here's a bit about us and the job:
We’re AWeber - a remote-first company that helps small businesses grow through the use of our marketing communication software. We are fanatical about small businesses and we hope you are too!
As our Senior Application DBA, you will own and optimize our 50+ TB data environment, guaranteeing consistent taxonomy of our data at rest, in use, and in motion, all aiming to create reliable and remarkable experiences for our customers. You will need to be proactive and take ownership of our data environment, using your vast knowledge of database infrastructure to implement, document, and enforce data best practices across the Engineering department.
On any given day, you might find yourself planning a long term strategy for optimizing and enhancing our varied data environment consisting of Postgres, DynamoDB, MongoDB, etc or you could be in the weeds, tactically executing on projects such as developing/optimizing schema, queries, stored procedures, or ETL pipelines. You’ll frequently collaborate with our software engineers to define schema enhancements and create a consistent structure by which they store and access data - holding them accountable to using documented best practices. You could also be busy troubleshooting a data lake issue - understanding how our various in-house and proprietary systems work to identify the root cause.
To thrive as our Sr. Application DBA, you must be passionate about all things data whether you frequent meetups, attend Postgres conferences, or get lost in database blogs and subreddits. You have an unquenchable thirst for learning, staying up to date on bleeding-edge database practices and technologies. You’re not afraid to jump in and write code or tooling to help make your job easier. You realize to be a strong DBA means you should be knowledgeable of the full application lifecycle, understanding (at a high level) application development, configuration management, etc and how they interact with our data infrastructure. You have strong opinions, founded on years of research and experience, which you aren’t afraid to share. You see code review and interacting with others as mentorship opportunities while being open to learning from others. Finally, you’re excited about the prospect of working with a large data set using disparate technologies and the many challenges and opportunities that brings.
While it is a remote position, this role is open to US residents only.
