A client of mine is looking for a data architect/DBA

Position: Information Architect / DBA

Location: Oakville, ON

Reporting to: Director, IT & Operations

Job Description:

Working under the direction of the Director of IT and Operations this is a hands on Information Architect role. This is a newly created role at FlightNetwork. The candidate will work with agile developers, product managers, infrastructure teams and will have the support of an offshore DBA and an onsite PostgreSQL consultant.The  Information Architect responsibilities will include:


  • database administration

  • database design and architecture

  • database security and replication

  • database performance, monitoring and tuning

  • organizing, consolidating and making data available

  • participate in user requirement analysis


This is a hands on role in a PostgreSQL environment with plans for non-structured systems in the near future to support the demanding needs of the business.  The candidate will work with agile developers, product managers, infrastructure teams and will have the support of an offshore DBA and an onsite PostgreSQL consultant.


This position is 24 x 7 and includes production support.

Required Skills:A minimum of 5 years in a comparable role

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent knowledge of Linux operating systems.

  • Solid understanding of database design principles.

  • Problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work well under stress.

  • Postgresql experience.

  • Experience with unstructured “big data” solutions; when to use it; when not to.

  • Excellent performance tuning skills.

  • Ability to proactively identify, troubleshoot and resolve live database systems issues.

  • Excellent command of the English language, both written and verbal.
